Not only is the Hypersite team talented, I consider the prices for their services reasonable, and they had a quick turnaround time on product creation...

Wor-Wic Community College

Wor-Wic Community College is a fast growing institution located in Salisbury, MD. Offering courses for Information Technology comes with some responsibilities. One of those is a website that, not only represents them but, displays their ability to utilize the latest technologies. Regardless of the variety of disciplines, in addition to IT, that Wor-Wic Community College offers, their needs for a functional website are great.

Goals

Our goals were to create a new image for the Wor-Wic Community College website while increasing the efficiency and accessibility of resources and information of both the professor and the courses they teach for a more effective learning environment.

Challenges

  • Adapt the custom graphics of artist Craig Costantino of CSC Design, to be utilized in a web interface format.
  • Create a secure database-powered administration area to allow faculty the ability to add, delete, and modify their own personalized areas within the college website complete with class based themes, content, and image controls.
  • Develop a web-based software application that allows students the ability to submit writing assignments to the college's writing clinic for review, and the ability for the instructor to make the review and resubmit it back to the student complete with corrections and instructions. With this, an administration module was also required to manage document flow and control.
  • Provide the college with technical consultation, to include troubleshooting web server issues.

Tools Used

Windows 2000 Advanced Server/IIS 5.0
SQL Server 7

Macromedia Homesite 4.5
Macromedia Fireworks 4

Methods

To make this an effective tool, the site structure was designed utilizing ASP and Microsoft SQL Server. This allows the content of the site to be updated, changed, and/or deleted by the specific instructor, in a user-friendly format designed for the novice computer user.
